About this product
The Big Agnes Shield is a four-season, single-wall, freestanding mountaineering tent designed for two people at high elevations and in severe weather conditions. Its body is built from Pertex three-layer fabric, combining a DWR-treated nylon face, a microporous membrane for moisture management, and a tricot inner layer for comfort and durability. The floor uses durable nylon with a 10,000mm polyurethane coating, while the optional footprint (sold separately) is nylon ripstop with a 1,200mm coating. All seams are fully taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape. The DAC Featherlite NSL pole system with press-fit connectors supports the structure via pole sleeves, and triangular stake-out flaps with pre-cut reflective guylines add stability in high winds. A single door with a storm flap includes two windows, and two supported roof vents can be closed from inside, with rope pass-through capability for harnessed sleeping. Interior features include four mesh pockets and multiple gear loops. The tent has a floor area of 28 square feet (2.6 square meters), a head height of 40 inches (102 cm), a trail weight of 1.76 kg, and a total packed weight of 2.10 kg in a 7 by 17.5 inch packed size.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Big Agnes Shield 2 for its impressive four-season versatility, rugged wind and snow resistance, and the high-breathability Pertex Shield single-wall fabric, which is noted as exceptional for managing moisture at altitude. The quick, freestanding setup using DAC pole sleeves earns repeated compliments, as do the reinforced stake-out points, interior gear storage, and a highly waterproof floor. The most common criticism centers on condensation risk inherent to single-wall designs, with forum users noting that even the dual roof vents may not fully eliminate interior moisture buildup in cold, humid conditions. The lack of an included vestibule (sold separately) is also a recurring complaint given the tent's snug 28-square-foot interior and premium price point.
