About this product
The SRAM Force 22 HRD Shift/Brake Lever and Flat Mount Caliper is a hydraulic road groupset component designed for road, cyclocross, and gravel riding. The brake lever is constructed from carbon fiber, while the shift lever uses aluminum and the hardware is stainless steel, keeping overall weight to a claimed 15.2 oz (431g) for the left lever, front caliper, 800mm hose, derailleur cable, 160mm rotor, and hardware combined. The caliper is forged aluminum and mounts via a flat-mount interface, making it compatible with a wide range of modern framesets. DOT 5.1 fluid powers the hydraulic actuation, and an adjustable banjo fitting on the caliper simplifies routing. Reach adjust on both the brake and shift levers allows riders to dial in hand position. The system is compatible with Red 22, Force 22, and Rival 22 Yaw front derailleurs and Exact Actuation rear derailleurs. Each set includes one lever, one caliper, a brake hose, an extra hose piece, a derailleur cable, two caliper bolts, and a bleed block. Rotor size compatibility spans 140 to 160mm, though the rotor is sold separately. SRAM backs the product with a two-year manufacturer warranty.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the SRAM Force 22 HRD for delivering powerful, confident braking with noticeably less hand effort than cable-actuated systems, and for pairing that hydraulic performance with smooth, precise 11-speed DoubleTap shifting. The adjustable reach is frequently highlighted as a plus for riders with varying hand sizes, and the taller hood profile, while polarizing in appearance, is credited with improved grip and control on rough or descending terrain. The combination of carbon brake levers, aluminum shift levers, and forged aluminum calipers is seen as a strong value relative to the top-tier Red groupset. The most common criticisms center on brake feel and maintenance: some riders report a longer-than-expected lever throw before bite, and forum users note that the hydraulic system can be finicky to bleed correctly, with occasional issues around spongy feel or fluid leaks requiring professional attention. Hood durability is also a recurring concern, with users noting the rubber tends to tear at the inner leading edge over time.
