About this product
The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL5 is a three-season, freestanding double-wall tent designed to carry five backpackers into the backcountry without the weight penalty typically associated with group shelters. Its packed weight of 7 lb 3 oz (trail weight 6 lb 10 oz) is kept in check by DAC Featherlite NFL and NSL Pressfit poles, which also maximize the 60-inch peak height across a generous 65 square feet of floor space (86 x 108 inches). The rainfly and floor use HyperBead fabric, a proprietary construction of 15D and 20D nylon ripstop with PU coating, while the body combines 15D nylon, 20D nylon ripstop, and 15D polyester mesh for breathability. Fully taped seams and two dual-slider vestibules (17 sq ft each) with optional awning-style coverage handle wet conditions effectively. Two doors allow independent entry and exit, and a fast-pitch configuration is supported when the separately sold footprint is used, bringing weight down to 5 lb 8 oz. The tent packs to 23 x 6 inches and comes in Tangelo.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Copper Spur UL5 as the standout option in the large-group ultralight tent category, highlighting its impressive weight-to-space ratio: at roughly 7 lbs packed, it offers 65 square feet of floor area and outweighs most four-person competitors. Its fully freestanding design, color-coded pole setup, generous headroom, dual vestibules, and user-friendly features earn repeated compliments, especially from families backpacking with young children. The most common criticisms center on the high price point and the practical reality that hauling a five-person tent is a significant burden for any single carrier. Some users also note that the thin fabric feels delicate, the footprint is sold separately, and a handful of Reddit users have flagged occasional zipper durability concerns. Experts note the UL5 is not suited for winter or heavy storm conditions.
