About this product
The Black Diamond Focus is a high-performance women's climbing shoe designed for technical routes and boulder problems that demand precision. Built on a women's specific last with a slight downturn, it delivers reliable edging capability on steeper terrain. The upper is constructed from highest-grade European leather paired with an Engineered Knit Technology tongue, a combination that promotes breathability and long-term durability. Rather than applied in the traditional way, high-friction rubber is printed directly onto the vamp area, reducing bulk while improving dexterity and grip for toe-hooking. The outsole uses NeoFriction Force rubber that is molded rather than cut from sheet stock, a process borrowed from carabiner manufacturing to optimize weight, consistency, and comfort across the sole and rands. Medial and lateral stabilizer rands further enhance precision by preventing the foot from rolling under pressure on inside or outside edges. Note that this shoe runs small, so sizing up is worth considering. Available in Caspian (SKU: BD570107).

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Black Diamond Focus Women's for its edging capability, noting that the slightly downturned shape and stiff 4.3mm rubber sole deliver solid precision on vertical to gently overhanging terrain. The high-grade leather upper and Engineered Knit tongue are also noted as quality construction highlights. However, the most common complaints center on the shoe's excessive stiffness, which leaves it feeling neither sensitive enough for slab climbing nor aggressive enough for steep overhangs, creating an awkward middle ground. Comfort is a recurring concern, with testers finding the toe box tight and the downturn uncomfortable on lower-angle terrain. Sizing runs notably small, and multiple reviewers strongly advise sizing up at least one full size. The heel fit can also feel baggy on some foot shapes.
