About this product
The Danner Crag Rat EVO is a men's over-the-ankle mountaineering boot built for alpine conditions, developed in collaboration with America's oldest search and rescue organization based in Hood River County, Oregon. The synthetic leather and textile upper features Perspair side panels for breathability and abrasion resistance, backed by a 2-layer GORE-TEX waterproof and breathable laminate. PrimaLoft Aerogel toe caps, the same gel technology used in NASA space suits, deliver premium insulation with minimal bulk and no pack-down over time, keeping feet warm in very low temperatures. A Vibram SPE rubberized EVA midsole offers enhanced rebound and durability over traditional EVA, while the Vibram Mulaz rubber outsole grips rock, snow, and mud with a sticky compound. Semirigid TPU heel clips provide hybrid crampon compatibility and handle icy conditions reliably. LIBA Smart TPU mudguards add lightweight protection, and a removable three-layer OrthoLite footbed supports cushioning and air circulation. The pair weighs 907 grams (2 lbs. 10 oz.) and comes in Ice/Yellow colorway.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Danner Crag Rat EVO for its impressive lightweight feel and confident traction on varied terrain, with the Vibram Mulaz outsole earning particular credit on rock, mud, and wet surfaces. The Gore-Tex waterproofing and PrimaLoft Aerogel toe cap are widely appreciated for keeping feet warm and dry without adding bulk. Many note a surprisingly minimal break-in period compared to other mountaineering boots, and the lacing system is called out for its secure, even fit. The most common complaints center on the extremely stiff midsole, which limits flex on steep ascents and descents, and the high price. Some users flag durability concerns with the upper materials and hardware, and the boots are noted as running warm outside of winter conditions. A notable drawback for long-term owners is that, unlike many Danner boots, the Crag Rat EVO is not recraftable.
