About this product
The Mammut Free 28 Airbag 3.0 is a 28-liter avalanche airbag backpack designed for serious backcountry objectives, weighing 2,235 g as a complete set. It includes the removable Airbag System 3.0, a dependable and compact transferable unit featuring a height-adjustable deployment handle and a high-visibility orange airbag balloon. The back panel opens fully via a zipper for quick access to gear, and the thermoformed carrying system uses high-density, two-layer EVA padding on both the back panel and shoulder straps to maintain a stable, balanced fit. Organization is handled through a front pocket dedicated to avalanche safety equipment, a soft-lined goggle compartment, and a radio pocket. The pack supports ski carry, snowboard carry, and helmet storage, and is hydration-compatible (reservoir not included). Fabric treatment is PFC-free durable water repellent, and the pack incorporates recycled materials throughout. A two-year warranty is included.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Mammut Free 28 Airbag 3.0 for its impressive lightweight profile, noting it feels surprisingly light for an airbag-compatible system and compares favorably to heavier electronic alternatives. The trail-running-vest-inspired carry system, 3D-molded back panel, and optimized shoulder and hip straps earn repeated compliments for on-body stability and all-day comfort. The dual-access main compartment, dedicated high-visibility orange safety pocket, and external attachment options for skis, a helmet, and poles are widely appreciated for practical organization. On the downside, the pack is offered in only one back length, which reviewers note can be a poor fit for shorter users. The hip belt pocket is also flagged as quite small, limiting quick-access storage. Note that the compressed air cartridge is sold separately, which adds to the total cost.
