About this product
The Rocky Mountain Instinct Powerplay SL C50 XT is a trail-focused electric mountain bike built around a Smoothwall Carbon frame that keeps weight low without sacrificing stiffness. Its Dyname S4 Lite motor delivers 700W of peak power and 75Nm of torque at a nominal 250W, and the 480Wh removable lithium-ion battery charges via the included 4A, 48V Powerplay FAST Charger. Suspension duties are handled by a RockShox Lyrik Select fork with 160mm of front travel and, on most sizes, a RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ rear shock providing 150mm of travel through the Smoothlink linkage. The RIDE-4 chip allows geometry adjustments to head tube angle and bottom bracket height with a single Allen key. Shimano XT shifters and rear derailleur pair with a 12-speed Shimano Deore cassette spanning 10 to 51T, while Shimano XT Trail four-piston hydraulic disc brakes provide confident stopping. Maxxis Minion DHF (2.5in front) and DHR II (2.4in rear) tires mount to WTB KOM Trail i30 TCS 2.0 wheels, and a size-specific TranzX RAD2.0 dropper seatpost rounds out the build.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Rocky Mountain Instinct Powerplay SL C50 XT for its impressive climbing ability, with the Dyname S4 Lite motor delivering smooth, torquey power and excellent traction even on steep technical terrain. The Smoothlink mid-high-pivot suspension earns wide acclaim for being both efficient while pedaling and supple on descents, giving the bike a natural, analog feel downhill. The RIDE-4 geometry adjustment system and removable 480Wh battery are frequently highlighted as standout features. The most common criticisms center on the bulky motor integration, the high price point, and the C50 build's spec compromises (notably the entry-level suspension and wheels). Some reviewers note the motor can run out of steam on very steep or highly technical climbs, and one reviewer flagged the dropper lever as difficult to reach and poorly designed.
