About this product

The SRAM Red HRD Shift/Brake Lever and Flat Mount Caliper for 2024 combines mechanical shifting with hydraulic disc braking in a single integrated lever system suited to road, cyclocross, and gravel riding. The levers are constructed from carbon fiber with titanium hardware, keeping weight low while maintaining durability, and the calipers are forged aluminum for a similarly light and robust build. DOT 5.1 fluid powers the hydraulic braking circuit, and the flat-mount caliper design is compatible with disc-equipped frames using that standard. Lever ergonomics are refined through SRAM's ErgoDynamics shaping, and reach adjust allows riders to dial in both brake and shift lever position to fit their hand size. The system is compatible with SRAM Red and Force mechanical front and rear derailleurs. Claimed weight for the left lever, front post-mount caliper, 800mm hose, DIR, 160mm rotor, and hardware is 15.8 oz (449g). Note that a rotor is not included. A 2-year manufacturer warranty is provided.

What people are saying

Reviewers consistently praise the SRAM Red HRD Shift/Brake Lever and Flat Mount Caliper for its excellent braking modulation and confident stopping power across road, gravel, and cyclocross conditions. The Double Tap shifting is widely regarded as crisp and precise, and the redesigned hood ergonomics are noted as a meaningful improvement for comfort on long rides. The flat-mount two-piston caliper design earns credit for clean frame integration and rub-free pad clearance. Independent reach and contact point adjustment are appreciated for accommodating a wide range of hand sizes. The most common criticisms center on occasional sticky pistons and pad rub requiring periodic maintenance, a known tendency toward brake noise if rotors become contaminated, and the need to purchase rotors separately. Some users also note that bleeding the system, while improved with Bleeding Edge technology, still demands care and proper tools to do correctly.
