About this product

The Therm-a-Rest Space Cowboy 45F/7C is a unisex mummy-style sleeping bag built for three-season backpacking and warm-weather camping. Its ISO-tested comfort rating of 52 degrees F (11 degrees C) and lower limit of 45 degrees F (7 degrees C) make it a practical choice for summer trips, whether car camping or heading into the backcountry. The bag weighs just 780 grams (under 2 lbs) and packs down to a stuff sack volume of 17.3 liters, with a compressed volume of 8.24 liters. Fill is proprietary eraLoft polyester hollow fiber, which traps air for warmth without excess weight, dries quickly, and retains loft even when damp. Both the shell and liner are GRS-certified 100% recycled nylon ripstop; the shell also carries a durable water repellent (DWR) finish. Heat-mapped zoned insulation concentrates fill where the body needs it most. Removable SynergyLink Connectors attach the bag to a sleeping pad (regular width, 3 inches thick or less when inflated) to reduce drafts and improve thermal efficiency. A left-side, anti-snag YKK zipper and a combo stuff and storage sack are included.

What people are saying

Reviewers consistently praise the Space Cowboy 45 for its impressive lightweight and packability among synthetic bags, its water-resistant synthetic fill that stays dry and insulating in wet or humid conditions, and the handy pad-attachment straps that prevent sliding off at night. The soft fabric and mummy-style fit with a draft collar also earn positive mentions. The most common complaint is that the temperature rating is misleading: the true comfort rating is closer to 52F, and multiple reviewers found themselves cold at or below 45F, making it a strict warm-weather-only bag. Some also note the foot box feels a bit snug and that the lack of compression straps makes it slightly bulky for backpacking compared to down alternatives.
