About this product
The Armada ARV 116 JJ UL is a 175 cm freeride ski built around a 116 mm waist, designed to balance deep-snow float with a genuinely lightweight feel suited to backcountry touring objectives. Its Caruba wood core is Armada's lightest wood species, chosen specifically to reduce swing weight without sacrificing the dampness and power needed for demanding descents. A directional fiberglass Laminate Matrix governs flex pattern and torsional rigidity, producing a lively yet forgiving response, while the AR75 Sidewall construction (75% sidewall, 25% cap) improves edge pressure underfoot and keeps the tip and tail from hooking during turn initiation. Freestyle Rocker combines rockered tips and tails with positive camber underfoot, allowing confident charging through variable snow and a solid carve when needed. Smear Tech adds a 3D beveled base geometry at the tip and tail to reduce catching in crud and aid self-centering in powder. Lightweight 1.7 heat-treated edges and an S7 base with speed additive round out the build. Flex ratings measure tip 3, waist 5, and tail 4 on a 10-point scale. A two-year warranty is included.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Armada ARV 116 JJ UL as one of the most playful and intuitive powder skis available, highlighting its exceptional float, surfy feel, and effortless maneuverability in deep snow. The ultralight Caruba wood core earns frequent praise for making the ski nimble enough for backcountry touring without sacrificing too much power underfoot. The Smear Tech beveled tip and tail is widely appreciated for enabling easy butters, pivots, and catch-free slashes. The most common criticism is that the lightweight build comes at a cost in variable or firm conditions, with reviewers noting reduced stability, damping, and edge hold on hard pack or crud. It is consistently described as a dedicated powder and soft-snow specialist, not a versatile all-mountain charger, and skiers seeking a damp, hard-charging ski are advised to look elsewhere.
