About this product
The Atomic Backland 108 is a women's backcountry and freeride ski built around a lightweight poplar and caruba wood core that keeps the pair weight manageable for uphill travel. At 108mm underfoot, the waist width provides a practical balance between powder float and all-condition versatility. The rocker-camber-rocker profile, which Atomic calls the FreeTour Profile, promotes smooth transitions in variable snow while maintaining stability on the descent. HRZN 3D tip shaping expands surface area at the front for improved float in deeper snow, and the partial twin tail aids maneuverability in mixed backcountry terrain. Construction uses a fiberglass laminate over a Dura Cap Sidewall (half-cap) design, with a sintered base and steel edges. Available in three lengths (158cm, 167cm, and 176cm), with sidecut dimensions ranging from 130.5 to 133.5mm at the tip and 119.5 to 122.5mm at the tail. The packed weight for the pair is 2,268g, and Atomic notes the low-impact construction process reduces CO2 emissions by 26 percent. A two-year limited warranty is included.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Atomic Backland 108 W as a top-tier women's backcountry ski, with one major publication calling it their favorite women's backcountry ski overall. The 108mm waist earns repeated praise as a versatile sweet spot for powder float and variable snow, making it a strong one-ski quiver. Testers highlight the lightweight poplar and caruba wood core as energetic and fun on descents without fatiguing legs on long tours. The HRZN 3D tip is widely credited for exceptional float in deep snow. The most common concern is that the ski is primarily soft-snow oriented, with some users noting the tail can feel stiff in firm or hard conditions. The limited length options for the women's version (stopping shorter than the men's 109) is a recurring frustration for taller or more aggressive skiers.
