About this product

The Big Agnes Battle Mountain 3 is a freestanding 4-season mountaineering tent designed in collaboration with Chhiring Dorje Sherpa, a Big Agnes Ambassador with 17 Everest summits. Built for high-alpine expeditions, it sleeps three across 44 square feet of floor space (86 x 60/88/60 inches) and stands 44 inches at peak height. The rainfly uses Dominico undyed ripstop polyester, silicone-treated with a 1,200 mm waterproof polyurethane coating and an additional face coating that boosts tear strength by 20 to 25 percent over standard fabrics while resisting UV fading. The nylon taffeta floor carries a 10,000 mm waterproof coating, and all seams are fully sealed. Three DAC Featherlite NSL poles (9.6 and 10.25 mm diameter) clip in quickly even with gloves on. Two doors and two vestibules offer a combined 19 square feet of gear storage, while eight interior pockets and two fly vents with closable covers manage organization and condensation. Packed weight is approximately 3,629 grams (8 lbs. 1 oz.) at a packed size of 8 x 22 inches.

What people are saying

Reviewers consistently praise the Big Agnes Battle Mountain 3 for its exceptional performance in harsh alpine conditions, noting it handles heavy snow loads, strong winds, and blizzard-level storms with confidence. The color-coded, hub-based DAC pole system earns repeated compliments for making setup fast and manageable even with gloves on. The dual-door, dual-vestibule layout and generous interior storage (gear loft, oversized pockets) are also frequently highlighted. The most common criticism is weight, coming in near 8 to 9 pounds, which reviewers acknowledge is a real tradeoff for its strength. A secondary complaint is that interior space feels snug for a true three-person group with gear, and ventilation on warmer nights is limited compared to three-season alternatives. The high price point is noted, though most reviewers consider it justified for serious mountaineering use.
