About this product
The Rab Solar Eco 3 is a synthetic sleeping bag designed for backpacking, mountain bothies, and trekking in cool conditions, with a temperature rating of -8C (20F). Its wide mummy shape prioritizes comfort without sacrificing thermal efficiency. Both the 20D Atmos recycled polyester ripstop outer (41gsm) and matching lining (38gsm) carry a fluorocarbon-free DWR treatment, and all materials are made from 100% recycled polyester. The Recycled Stratus insulation, sourced entirely from post-consumer PET bottles, uses a dual-layer concertina blanket construction on the upper (140gsm) and a lighter 100gsm layer at the base, with offset localised quilting to minimize cold spots. Warmth retention is further supported by a close-fitting adjustable neck baffle and an elasticated hood drawcord with cordlock. The YKK three-quarter-length left-hand zip features an insulated baffle and an anti-snag internal guard. The long and wide (WR) version weighs 1,335g and packs down to 40 x 22cm inside the included compression stuffsack.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Rab Solar Eco 3 for its impressive warmth, plush comfort, and strong sustainability credentials, with nearly all materials made from recycled sources. The synthetic Stratus insulation earns particular appreciation for retaining warmth when wet and drying exceptionally fast, making it well suited to damp or unpredictable conditions. The DWR-treated shell, adjustable hood, and internal draft collar are frequently highlighted as effective cold-weather features. Durability also draws positive comments, with long-term users reporting no signs of wear after months of regular use. The most common criticism is bulk and packability: the synthetic fill does not compress as small as down, making it less practical for lightweight backpacking. Some cold sleepers note the temperature rating feels optimistic below around -5C, and the mummy cut can feel restrictive for those who move around while sleeping.
