About this product
The Rab Solar Eco 3 is a synthetic sleeping bag designed for cool-condition trekking, mountain bothies, and backpacking travel, offering a wide mummy shape for added sleeping comfort. Its environmental credentials are central to the design: both the shell and lining are made from 20D Atmos recycled polyester ripstop (41gsm outer, 38gsm lining), each treated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR finish, while the Stratus insulation is sourced entirely from post-consumer PET bottles. The upper uses a 140gsm dual-layer recycled Stratus sheet insulation with a concertina blanket construction for improved loft, and the base uses a lighter 100gsm version. Offset localised quilting reduces cold transmission throughout. A close-fitting neck baffle and adjustable hood with elasticated drawcord and cordlock help seal in warmth, complemented by a YKK three-quarter-length zip with an insulated baffle and anti-snag internal guard. The bag has a temperature rating of -8C (20F), packs down to 40 x 22cm, weighs 1,236g in the Wide Regular size, and includes a compression stuff sack.

What people are saying
Reviewers consistently praise the Rab Solar Eco 3 for its impressive warmth, plush comfort, and strong sustainability credentials, with nearly all materials made from recycled sources. The synthetic Stratus insulation earns particular appreciation for retaining warmth when wet and drying exceptionally fast, making it well suited to damp or unpredictable conditions. The DWR-treated shell, adjustable hood, and internal draft collar are frequently highlighted as effective cold-weather features. Durability also draws positive comments, with long-term users reporting no signs of wear after months of regular use. The most common criticism is bulk and packability: the synthetic fill does not compress as small as down, making it less practical for lightweight backpacking. Some cold sleepers note the temperature rating feels optimistic below around -5C, and the mummy cut can feel restrictive for those who move around while sleeping.
