About this product

The Big Agnes Shield 2 is a freestanding, single-wall, 4-season mountaineering tent built for one person and engineered to handle extreme wind and cold. The canopy and rainfly share the same Pertex 3-layer construction, combining a tightly woven DWR-treated nylon face fabric with a microporous membrane and a tricot inner layer for breathability, moisture management, and durability. The floor uses a durable nylon with a robust 10,000 mm polyurethane coating, and all seams are fully sealed for rain protection rated at level 3. Three 9 mm DAC Featherlight NSL poles support the dome structure, which measures 86 by 52 to 42 inches on the floor with a 40-inch peak height and 28 square feet of interior space. Minimum trail weight is 3 lbs. 14 oz. (approximately 1,361 g), and the tent packs down to a compact 7 by 17.5 inches. A single door with a storm flap includes two windows, two supported roof vents operable from inside, triangular stake-out flaps for extra guyout points, and pre-cut reflective guylines. An accessory vestibule is sold separately.

What people are saying

Reviewers consistently praise the Big Agnes Shield 2 as a capable, lightweight four-season mountaineering tent that punches above its weight in harsh conditions. Its single-wall construction earns repeated credit for impressive wind resistance and snow shedding, while the quick and easy setup is a frequent highlight. The breathable, waterproof fabric is generally well regarded for keeping the interior dry. The most common criticism is the lack of an included vestibule, which means gear storage is limited to the 28 sq ft interior and a separate accessory purchase is needed. Condensation management, a known challenge with any single-wall design, is a recurring concern among forum users, even with the tent's dual vents. The product is noted as discontinued, which some buyers flag as a practical consideration.
