The Big Agnes Shield 2 is a freestanding, single-wall, 4-season dome tent built specifically for mountaineering. Despite the name, it sleeps one person across a floor area of 28 square feet, with dimensions of 86 by 52 inches at the head tapering to 42 inches at the foot, and a peak height of 40 inches. The canopy and rainfly share the same Pertex 3-layer construction, combining a DWR-treated nylon face fabric, a microporous membrane for moisture management, and a tricot inner layer for comfort. The floor uses durable nylon with a 10,000 mm polyurethane coating, and all seams are fully sealed. Three 9 mm DAC Featherlight NSL poles provide the structural backbone, while triangular stake-out flaps and pre-cut reflective guylines add stability in severe conditions. A single door with a storm flap includes two windows, and two supported roof vents can be closed from inside the tent. Minimum trail weight is 3 lbs. 14 oz., with a packed size of 7 by 17.5 inches. An accessory vestibule is sold separately.
