About this product

The Rab Ascent 0F Down Sleeping Bag is built for cold-weather backpacking and mountain trekking, carrying a temperature rating of 0F (-17.78C) and a packed weight of just 454 grams. Its wide mummy shape offers more room to move than a traditional mummy cut, while sidewall baffles maintain loft and improve comfort for side sleepers. L.O.F.T baffles reduce down migration and support consistent heat retention throughout the night. The insulation is 650-fill-power RDS-certified European duck down treated with a Grangers PFC-free hydrophobic finish, helping it retain warmth even in damp conditions. The shell is 20D Pertex Quantum nylon ripstop with a PFC-free DWR finish, and the lining uses 20D 100% recycled nylon. An anatomical hood, 3D neck collar, full-length draft tube, and shaped footbox work together to seal in warmth. A 3/4-length zipper with zippered side venting, one internal zippered pocket, and a drawcord stuff sack round out the practical details. Available in regular and long lengths, it carries a limited lifetime warranty.

What people are saying

Reviewers consistently praise the Rab Ascent 900 (0F) for delivering reliable, genuine warmth in cold and winter conditions, with many users reporting comfort well below the rated temperature. The wide mummy cut, adjustable 3D neck collar, and draft-blocking zip baffle earn repeated compliments for comfort, particularly among side sleepers. The Nikwax hydrophobic down treatment and Pertex Quantum shell are noted as practical features for damp environments. The most common criticism is weight: at roughly 54 oz, it is heavier than competing bags at this temperature rating, and its 650-fill duck down offers a lower warmth-to-weight ratio than premium goose-down alternatives. Some users also flag minor down leakage and a faint initial odor. The price is considered fair for the performance, though ultralight-focused backpackers are advised to look elsewhere.
