The Mammut Barryvox S is a three-antenna avalanche beacon operating at the standard 457 kHz frequency, designed for backcountry skiers and snowboarders who want a capable, feature-rich transceiver. Its backlit display remains legible through polarized lenses and shows distance, direction, and the number of buried subjects simultaneously. Digital search strip width reaches 70 meters (100 meters in analog mode), with a receiving range of 70 meters digital and 95 meters analog. Digital signal processing separates signals from multiple buried victims, and a marking function lets rescuers list and flag each located subject. Acoustical search guidance provides directional tone cues so the searcher can keep eyes on the debris field rather than the screen. The Smart Search mode adapts to user actions for more reliable results, while the Reverse Direction Function prevents 180-degree orientation errors. W-Link wireless connectivity (869.8 MHz in Europe, 916 to 926 MHz in North America) enables fleet management and group testing of other compatible beacons. Auto-revert to Send activates after four minutes of inactivity, and the automatic self-test checks transmit and receive functions at startup. Three AAA alkaline or lithium batteries provide at least 300 hours of transmit life. The unit measures 115 x 67 x 27 mm and operates from -25 to +45 degrees Celsius.
